ARE GRADES REALLY IMPORTANT IN SCHOOL?
Nowadays, students are expected to wake up before sunrise, get home just before the bedtime, and still be productive for homework, tests, or even studies. They do whatever they could to get the best grades and maintain everything in a good trend, in order to get pass or be accepted by a prestigious university. Is this the newest education system? Is this what they do to our next generations?
"They are humans, not a high-performance robots", they said. Yes, this is what happens in recent years. We have to do admit that the populations are growing up for the last 20 years. Students are required to do their best in order to face this problem. The education systems are planting a grades-are-everything mindset to the students. They are usually afraid of dealing with parents' anger when the school report cards are given by the teacher.
School lets their students's grades to decide their future while there is no soft skills such as attitudes, counseling, and character building programs are learnt at school. Math, Physics, Chemistry, Economic studies and Geography are needed for their future, but not for their success. How can they be success if they do not even know a thing about problem solving or how to interact to the people they bump into in their everyday life? Are these the parents' responsibility to build their children's character and educate about social life while students spend almost a whole day at school?
In conclusion, I really do not agree if the students grades are the only things that matter. Moreover, why the students who are really passionate on music, have to learn Quantum Physics further? How can you be success if you have to pay full attention to Dynamic Fluids, Electrolysis, and the solving of Quadratics Equations all in one day? Someone has to show up with an idea to save the education systems in general, and our next generations in particular.
